The EWB Regional Conference in Sughd brought together around 40 English language teaching professionals on May 4th, 2024, for a day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration. This one-day event provided a platform for teachers, researchers, and practitioners in the Sughd region to explore current trends in ELT, share best practices, and enhance their professional development.

Diving into Workshops and Poster Presentations

  • EL Fellows Drew Bennett and Sharon Lyman kicked off the workshops. Mr. Bennett led a session on “Ice Breakers and Everyday Activities for Communicative Language Teaching,” while Ms. Lyman explored “How to Use Communicative Language Teaching Approach to Improve Students’ Speaking Skills.”
  • Zarrina Azizova‘s demonstration class and the following peer reflection session encouraged educators to learn from each other. Participants engaged in discussions and developed collaborative reflection techniques.
  • The E-Poster Session provided a platform for participants to showcase their best practices in communicative teaching. Additionally, attendees learned about U.S. Exchange Programs and professional development opportunities within the EWB Network.
  • The afternoon offered more practical workshops. Marwa Mansour tackled “Teaching Challenge: How to Turn Dull Textbook Exercises into Engaging Activities for the CLT Classroom,” while Parvina Yakubova presented “Enhancing Teacher-Student Competencies in Language Classes through Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT).”
  • Makia Jonas focused on listening skills with “From Passive Listening to Active Engagement: Strategies for Communicative Listening Activities.” Parvina Rizoeva explored “Presenting Grammar through Communicative Language Teaching: Why and How to Teach It,” equipping participants with effective grammar teaching methods.

Celebrating Achievements and Collective Learning

The Closing Ceremony recognized participants’ dedication and announced the EWB contest results. A celebratory cake marked the end of the successful event, solidifying the sense of community and shared learning among Sughd’s ELT professionals.

The 2024 EWB Regional Conference in Sughd served as a catalyst for professional growth and exchange, empowering educators to enhance their classrooms and student learning.
