The EWB Regional Conference held on April 20th, 2024, at the American Space Bokhtar, was a resounding success! This one-day event brought together more than 30 English language teaching practitioners and professionals from across the Khatlon region for a day of professional exchange and development.

The conference focused on the transformative power of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and its impact on English language learning. Participants had the opportunity to:

  • Exchange ideas and best practices: Through workshops and collaborative sessions, educators shared successful teaching methods and strategies for incorporating CLT principles into their classrooms.
  • Explore current trends and resources: Renowned speakers led sessions on innovative approaches and the latest resources available to English language educators.
  • Expand professional networks: The conference fostered a collaborative environment, allowing educators to connect with colleagues, build relationships, and learn from each other’s experiences.
  • Discover professional development opportunities: Attendees gained valuable insights into EWB programs and initiatives that support professional growth for EL teachers in Tajikistan.

Appreciation for Speakers’ Expertise

The conference’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable contributions of our esteemed speakers. We extend our deepest appreciation to:

  • Sharon Lyman, EL Fellow: Her insights on using Communicative Language Teaching to improve student speaking skills were particularly insightful.
  • Gulnora Zulobieva and Mamarajab Ibragimov: Their workshop on encouraging risk-taking in communication and transforming student errors into learning opportunities offered practical strategies for fostering a positive classroom environment.
  • Bakhtiyor Davlatmurodov: We appreciate his exploration of how Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) can enhance teacher and student language learning competencies.
  • Sarvinoz Komilova: Her session on transitioning from passive listening to active engagement provided valuable strategies for creating interactive listening activities.
  • Eraj Ziyodaliev: His demonstration session provided a valuable framework for professional development through peer observation.
  • Alisher Alikulov and Nasiba Mirpochoeva: Their workshop on presenting grammar through CLT offered a clear roadmap for effectively integrating grammar instruction into a communicative approach.
  • Zeboniso Murodova: Her session on transforming dull textbook exercises into engaging activities for the CLT classroom sparked creativity and offered practical solutions for educators.

In addition to the insightful workshops, the poster session provided a fantastic platform for educators to showcase their best teaching practices and innovative ideas. We are grateful to all the poster presenters for their willingness to share their expertise with their colleagues. Their dedication and creativity are truly inspiring.

The conference received rave reviews from participants. Many educators praised the informative workshops, the opportunity to network with colleagues, and the overall positive atmosphere.

The EWB Regional Conference in Bokhtar was a significant event for English language education in the Khatlon region. The conference empowered educators to transform their classrooms and create a more engaging learning environment for their students by providing a platform for professional exchange and development. The EWB team looks forward to hosting more successful conferences in the future!
