EWB Book Lovers Club
Do you love books? Are you often looking for people to discuss literature with?
Lots of people love to read, but it can be hard to find someone to discuss the book you’re reading. If you’re having a hard time finding people to talk with about your reading material, you might want to consider joining EWB Book Lovers Club. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends with common interests.
During our Book Lovers Club, we meet in small, heterogeneous groups to discuss a book that we have all read or listened to.
Structure of the EWB Book Lovers Club
- Before Reading. We choose a book from the set of selections based on members’ preferences. Make a schedule so members know when they will meet.
- Independent Reading of the Book. Members read the text individually.
- Book Club Discussion. When all members have finished reading or listening to the book, we bring them together for a discussion. Discussion is facilitated by guest speakers or EWB staff, but the goal over time is for Club members to initiate the talk, respond to others in the group, and add to each other’s ideas using evidence from the text or personal experiences to build a rich understanding.
- Group Evaluation. At the end of the discussion, members self-evaluate their book club on characteristics such as turn-talking and preparation. They talk about what they will work on.
